Open My Network Connections, right mouse click on the network adaptor you
use, select Properties > General Tab, then from the list of 'Items', select
TCP/IP and Properties again. Select 'Use the following IP address' and
enter your details.
Before you do all this, do Start Menu > Run and type cmd.exe. In the DOS
window that appears, type ipconfig /all. You will see here all the IP
address details that you need to enter above. Just change the use the IP
address you want.
My router issues IP addresses between 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.105.
Because I have set up my laptop as a media server for my Media Player, I
always want my laptop to be 192.168.1.101, so I enter that.
Regardless of the order in which PCs join my network, my laptop always get
the .101 address.
