I am getting spam email from some pratt using my own email addy. I don't
know how the bugger is doing it but I can't use a spam programme or a filter
in case I cock up my own incoming messages.

How can I bounce this dickhead, as he is probably using my addy to spam a
lot of other people who may be well ****ed of with me? I'm using Outlook in
Vista Ultimate for a mail programme.

Good on ya for any help lads and lasses! ;o)

You can choose any e-mail address you want in most every e-mail
client. Not too hard to do.

Huh? Try saying that again...

You can't. If he's forging your address, how do you intend to send
them back to him?

Likely the people he spams he puts their e-mail address as the from
address too - ie if he spams http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/(E-Mail Removed) , it will show as (E-Mail Removed)
.. This is done to byspass spam filters.

That's a bummer.

I use a spam programme called Mailwasher Pro 6.0 which normally will
blacklist and delete all spam automatically, but if I blacklist my own addy
won't it delete all genuine mail addressed to me too?

Not a clue mate, but I was hoping to find some way to give the guy a kick in
the goolies.

Most Bayesian types of anti-spam applications can soon learn to stop
that sort of spam. The email application that I use has Bayesian junk
detection built in but I think you will need a separate application to
use with Outlook.

No, that's a feature. Well, more or less.

I don't use Mailwasher, so I don't know. Depends on what it looks for.
The from address? The reply address?

Sounds like you need to filter on the *other* headers, not just to and
from. Take a look at the properties of the message and then view source
to see the *real* headers. MS shows a simplified view of what's actually
there.

Do you often send yourself e-mails (so the From header has you in it)?
If not, trigger on e-mails that you get that are sent from you.

SpamPal. It's free.

Make sure the server-side anti-spam filtering is enabled. Use the
webmail interface to your e-mail account to make sure your e-mail
provider's spam filtering is enabled.

Don't bother to bounce back bitch mails to the sender. The spammer
lied about being you. You think they won't lie about from where they
send their crap? You think the spammer himself is sending his crap
versus using infected hosts running mail trojans? Don't even use the
bounce "feature" in Mailwasher as it can get you blacklisted for
slamming innocents with your bogus bounce spam (your misdirected
bounces can be reported as backscatter).
