I recently received an email that briefly mentioning these beta tests. These
tests are defined as UPGRADE tests to upgrade you from MCSD to MCPD. As I
understand it MCSD is still the top certification so how can this be
considered an upgrade? Since I am already an MCSD why would I want to take
these exams?

Thanks,

So, then you still have to take another test or two to get MCSD (.Net 2.0)?
Wouldn't an "upgrade" make more sense if it took you from MCSD (.Net 1.1) to
MCSD (.Net 2.0)?

Do these exams only count if you are currently a MCSD (.NET 1.1)? What if
you're a MCSD (6.0)?

I agree that .Net 2.0 is a wonderful improvement, but I don't see that it's
so different from 1.1 that it warrants having to take so many additional
tests to "upgrade" your certification.

I was just comparing MCPD Ent. Dev to MCSD (.Net 2.0) and it is really
confusing to tell what you would still have to take to get MCSD (.Net 2.0) if
you did take the upgrade tests or why anyone would ever go this route. As I
understand it, without the upgrade tests a person would have to take NINE
tests just to get to MCPD and then ??? more tests to get to MCSD. Or, if you
just take the MCSD route you only have to take 5 tests. I've always been one
to defend MS's certification strategies but this is just a blatant money
making scheme.

I'd love to hear someone make sense of all this.

Ian

It's because they've split several certifications apart. Like the MCDBA for
example it's now MCITP: DBA or MCITPBP one for programming and the other
for admin.

The MCSD will not be offered for the new line of Certs. Instead .Net 2 falls
under one of the MCTS line with is the Technology Specialist line. Also the
Development is broken into three lines as well now. So Lets say you are an
MCSD in .NET and you are going for the MCPDEAD (Professional Developer:
Enterprise Applications Developer) It has a prerequisite , the MCTS exams. I
know it's a bit confusing and to be honest I'm not entirely certain I'm
correct, but the way I read it is plainly that you need to take 2 exams only
(The upgrade exams).

If you are an MCSD in VB 6.0 you do not have a direct upgrade path to the
MCPD: EAD

Hope this helps, good luck...
