Default XP cannot connect to wireless network.

I have a DSL connection, with a netgear 814v2 wireless router having
the latest firmware.
my xp machine has a linksys wusb11 wireless adapter (802.11b). The
problem is I can see my SID, but when i try to connect to my home n/w
it tries to acquire network address, but never gets one and finally it
shows limited connectivity, also a repair after that does not help.
i have tried using open system as well, but to the same result. the
firmware on both the devices is up to date.
interesting thing is i have a laptop aswell (it has a 802.11g onboard
card), and it connects seamlessly to the router without any trouble. it
is just the desktop with the linksys adapter which is annoying me..
ny help will b much appreciated.

thank you.
