Weird Workgroup Issue

I have a Windows XP network. They are all on the same workgroup. One
machine, the XP Tablet Edition, running a wireless connection can't
see any other machines in the workgroup. I can't even ping them.

I tried the following:
1. pinging ANY workgroup machines...no response
2. Running net view...."the list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available"
3. Ran ipconfig /all.....it seems that the node type is set to
"unknown" that's all I can see that is different there from the other
machines. I Googled this and foud that you had to change the
EnableProxy DWORD value. That key was not even present. Neither were
any of the other keys mentioned in the link either.

All I want to do is add a network printer to the system. But since it
can't see the workgroup it never sees the printer. Help.

What is the IP address of the tablet and any one of the other machines? What
router are you using, make and model?

As a last resort I tried booting into safe mode with networking. I was
able to see the workgroup. So it seems that in normal mode some
program or virus is preventing this.

Sorry. I just assumed it had nothing to do with that since in safe
mode the thing works fine. Any other ideas, or do you still want the
answer to the question?
