Odd Outlook Express behavior

This problem just cropped up about a month ago. I am using OE6. Sometimes when I reply to an email the default font color is white (I guess) because I cannot see what I am typing. I see the cursor moving like it is supposed to but there is no text on the screen. If I change the font color back to black or any other color it works fine. What would cause OE to change the font to white on its own? If it matters I am using XP Pro SP2.
