Hi, The PC running Windows XP SP2 is on a small network and Internet
access is through a NetGear Router. We have 3 PCs running on the network, 2 of which seem to get to the internet without a problem. The third PC Errors frequently on sending and receiving mail, access web pages and downloading files. With the file download, the download will get to a point between 0 & 99%, then stop permanently. Occasionally it succeeds!. This happens on wireless and on wired network connections. The wireless connection is showing a very good or excellent signal strength and the router log shows that the Internet connection is solid and unbroken. To me this indicates the problem is one between the PC and the LAN rather than the Internet access per se. I have turned off all firewalls and virus checkers and it is still the same. I've checked the MTU settings and ensured the PC is set to an MTU 1372 that doesn't split up any packets and have lowered the MTU on the router to match. The PC has just been moved to the network from another network where it worked fine, albeit using a different login ID. I cannot see where the user ID could affect this but that is a possibility? Where should I be checking to resolve this issue? Thanks for your help Phil Phil |

Hi
While MTU may vary in most cases it is 1500 for Cable Connection and 1492 for DSL. May be this can further Help, http://www.ezlan.net/clean.html#refreshnet Jack (MVP-Networking).
