Well, after completing an online history course, my son,
age 16, has a free hour at school, so rather than sitting in study hall and staring at the walls, my son, the Principal, and the computer guy (?) thought it would be worthwhile for him to get A+ certified. A+ Complete Study Guide, Sybex $32.99 A+ Core Exam $153.00 A+ OS Exam $153.00 Son able to fix my computer after he downloads a virus from limewire: priceless. kpg kpg |

I dont think A+ really teaches how to 'fix a computer after downloading a
virus' Then again, I don't think A+ teaches much of any use And probably want to use www.getcertified4less.com to save some money.. ($274 for both instead of $306) Your son could also try and get some friends and do something with them during that hour? Or perhaps do his homework/studying then so his evenings are free? Echoed forth from the dank caverns of microsoft.public.cert.exam.mcse, the
plaintive wail of kpg: > Son able to fix my computer after he downloads a virus > from limewire: priceless. Good to hear that clue apparently runs in the family. So you were unsuccessful at dissuading him from entering this ghods bedamned field, eh?<G> -- JaR MCNGP 10110 Remove hat to reply "For the chilllldren!" -- When all rational arguments have failed. He has too many friends now, a girlfriend for each day of the week, an active member of the Beta club, student council, junior class president, honor roll for the last 11 years, has a black belt in Tai Kwon Do, and he knows how to program the VCR. I would like to take credit for all that, but it is most likely a combination of good genes and good environment. Private school (nothing fancy, k-12 Christian school) with a wholesome environment free from drugs and violence, a mom that makes him do his homework and constantly preaches the value of education. kpg kpg |

> Then again, I don't think A+ teaches much of any use On the A+. When I took the test it was nothing more than a light review of computer basics I learned from 1980 to present. But think about this new generation of computer geeks. What do they know about IRQ's? With the advent of Plug-n-Pray there are no dip switches anymore. What about simple stuff, like making sure the cards are well seated? Easy stuff, but only after you learn it. In looking at the A+ objectives I realize that, though basic, there is a lot of knowledge there that I take for granted, but was gained over many years of building, destroying, and rebuilding my own computers. So, yes, for entry level IT I think A+ has a lot of value. kp "my computer beeps five time when I turn it on" g kpg |
