As it is on an IDE channel it will have been installed as either Master
or slave, but you supply no details so I'll assume it was configured as
slave to the DVD drive as master on the same IDE channel.
If so, disable the HD in Device Manager and see how system functions,
if all OK, then shutdown and disconnect and remove.
But when re-installing in "old box", I'm assuming it was a boot device
and it has the operating system installed on it. If so you will have to
connect it to the primary IDE channel as *master*, this is done via
jumpers on rear panel of drive.
I have a feeling by the way you constructed your question you will find
it all a bit daunting, take it to whoever "made the new box".
