Neil,
The reason I came here is when I searched for Gigabit Ethernet I found one RFC pertaining to Gbit Ethernet. Is this right or are there more than one RFC that describe and go into detail regarding Gbit Ethernet? -- Nocturnal @ http://www.randomfix.com "Neil" <guess!!!@gmail.com> wrote in message news:Xns9706D393DAD05neilmcsegmailcom@207.46.248.1 6... > did you hear "Nocturnal" <> say in > news:: > >> ??? >> > > www.ietf.org is best for rfc's. Is this right or are there more > than one RFC that describe and go into detail regarding Gbit Ethernet? > RFCs are for TCP/IP. that would be everything from OSI layer 3 up (ok so there is a bit at the layer 2 level but for the most part 3+). Signaling (in this case CSMA/CD in the form of 802.3x) is typically handled at layer 1 or 2. If you would like to get the info on how 1000Bt works you will need to hit the IEEE site not IETF. I only found RFC 1216 as mentioning "gigabit" and it doesn't refer to Ethernet at all. It is more how gigabit networks might require new protocols. and hey it was written in 1991 so I wouldn't put too much wieght in it. If you want the 1000BaseT specs, IEEE are your guys. -- Neil MCNGP#30 - Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it. Neil |
