Default MCDST vs MCSE

I recently passed MCDST, and i'm planning to still pursue my MS career, by
first taking up MCSA.. going to MCSE on windows 2003. according to microsoft
web site. MCDST is an elective exam for MCSA on windows 2003. so what i need
to pass is another 2 core exams 290 and 291. am i right? den u'll be MCSA on
windows 2003. my questions are :

1. is MCDST an elective exam also on MCSE on windows 2003?
2. do i need to take up another OS exam which is 70-270 (windows xp) for me
to complete my MCSE path, i already passed teh MCDST exam ?

MCDST is NOT an elective for MSCA. I just received my MCDST and am working
on the track as you. Next is MCSA, then MCSE. The exams I am taking are:
70-270 (windows xp, already passed), 70-290, 70-291, 70-284. No MCDST exam
is an elective for MCSA or MCSE.

Read the requirements on the web site carefully.

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/mcse/windows2003/

If it isn't listed as an alternative, then its not an alternative. Note that
you only have to pass an exam once, then its good for any cert.

That would be incorrect. The MCDST which requires 2 exams can be
substituted for an elective.

Thank you for all the infos. i've seen in the website that MCDST is also an
elective exam for MCSA on windows 2003 so i don't need to take up 70-270

but not in MCSE on Windows 2003.. hmm... y not? the only listed there as an
elective exam are MCSA on Windows 2000, MCSE on Win2k and WinNT 4.. how come
MCSA on windows 2003 is not listed? same with MCDST? so it means i also need
to take up the 70-270... ????

thanks in advance!

The elective compnent of the MCSE is intended to prove depth of knowledge of
other network systems, hence MCSA 2000. The MCDST does not primarily focus
on the network aspect and therefore does not qualify as an elective. HTH

Sorry forgot to address this one specifically. Having MCSA 03 does not
prove any know ledge of "other" network systems.

Holy crap! Thanks for straightening me out! I didn't realize that my MCDST
cert counts as an elective. I only have two tests left! Woohoo!
