I've written home about it several times.
Pirates of the Caribbean, Enter the Dragon, Donnie Brasco, Identity,
MI:3, Enemy of the State, Deja Vu, Open Season, The Prestige, Nine
Inch Nails - Beside you in Time, Planet Earth, World Trade Centre,
Casino Royale, Apocalypto, Kingdom of Heaven, Black Hawk Down - all
absolutely stunning and several times better than anything I've seen
on DVD whether upconverted or not.
Also the sound, particularly on Buena Vista's 24-bit PCM titles,
rounds circles around the lossy 448 Kbps Dolby Digital tracks found on
most DVD's.

Is there a cheap place to buy blue-ray movies if there is such a thing?

Wherever you buy your DVD's cheapest--
Best Buy has them on the shelf (haven't checked Target), DeepDiscount
doesn't ignore them, and http://dvdpricesearch.com includes them on
their lists.

And there are also all kinds of sales going on to help.

Starting 7/1/2007, if you buy a Blu Ray player, including the PS3, you
can send off for 5 free Blu Ray movies. Check AVSforums for link and
info.
