Default OT: 2005 NYR

Hope everyone had a good xmas/new year or whatever other
heathen ritual you celebrate.

Here are my New Year's resolutions:

In 2005 I resolve to:

Stop stealing my neighbors Internet
(I set up a wireless game adapter for my son, I had
5 choices of unsecured wireless connections, not
including mine, to choose from!)

Get along better with Ken and Nerd
(because I believe that the children are our future)

Never to use CAT5 where CAT6 is indicated
(unless I can get it really cheap)

Not submit frivolous OT posts that don't provide any real information

Drink less, eat better, and workout more...
(thank my wife for that one)

Get more certs
(because I fell so damn inadequate)

Stop reading all those posts by Neil
(that should free up some time)

Hahaha...nice. And these tools probably don't even know that they're bent
over with their pants around their ankles, do they?

> Get along better with Ken and Nerd

Do we not get along, or was this simply to make the children joke? If so,
that's cool, but if not....I don't have a problem with you, man. Unless you
got a problem with me. Then I'm gonna have to lay the smack down and show
you who's boss. Right.

> Never to use CAT5 where CAT6 is indicated

CAT6 is real.

> Not submit frivolous OT posts that don't provide any real information

Starting.....NOW. No wait, starting..........NOW! Dammit! Starting tomorrow.

The number 1 resolution. Coincidentally, the number 1 broken resolution.

> Get more certs
> (because I fell so damn inadequate)

Don't say MS certs. It's people like the late cobol, wongh, and Paisley that
make these certs invaluable. And I mean "invaluable" in the bad way, this
time. I'm one exam away from my MCSA, and I have no desire right now to go
take the test, simply because MS refuses to make the exams less dump-able,
let alone dump-free.

Dear Jeebus! If everyone were to do that, the international economy would
boom! People would actually get work done, productivity would increase,
profits would increase, expenditures would increase, and jobs would be
created...thus moving jobs back from tsunami-ville. We can't have that now,
can we?

I agree with you, KB. I'm in a good training course (not on my own dime
either...w00t) right now for LPI1 and 2 certs (doing it the right way) and
also learning DB2 (always enjoyed working with DBs). The good thing there is
that LPI doesn't appear to have been 'dumped to death (YET). [1,2] Since I'm
intensely involved in this at the moment, I've put my MCS* quest a bit on
the back burner for the moment. I've fallen into some doubt myself as to the
worth of it, though. I might have to reassess once I'm through this. Is this
simply a case of an MCNGPer having a crisis of faith?

[1] I'm not going to involve myself in any of these Win/Lin wars you see
elsewhere. They're operating systems. Tools to get things done. I've seen
way to much near-jihadism on both sides. These attitudes have caused enough
problems in the greater world with all the my.deity > your.deity crap, much
less over compilations of zeros and ones.

[2] On the first day of class, the guy sitting in front of me asked the
instructor whether he though using 'dumps was a good idea. WWMCNGPD? I
wanted to yell "ARSCHFICKER!!!" and do my best Reggie Jackson impersonation
on the back of his head with my keyboard[2a]. To the instructor's credit, he
shares our views about it.

[2a] When giving some deserving AFer a keyboard shampoo, is it better to
nail him with the back side of the KB or the side with the keys? I'm
thinking that while the damage to said AFer is roughly equal, there's a
better visual effect when you use the key side because of the possibility of
keys flying everywhere due to the momentum of the strike porpelling the keys
away from the unit (with the exception of those keys embedded in the AFer's
cranium).

If you have time to plan your attack I recommend gluing thumb tacks to the
keys before assailing said A.S.S.F.U.C.K.E.R. It provides a more devastating
thrashing and has an awsome shock factor.

I think the key side, not only flying keys but it leaves a cool
checkerboard impression that lasts for days.

My keyboard of choice is an antique IBM Model M. Not only are the annoying
"Windows keys" absent, but the keys have a nice positive feel when
depressed. It is of good, solid construction, able to absorb repeated hard
impacts, and is of sufficient heft to make an impression on even the most
thick-headed luser.

I've got two of them. When these cheap gummy keyboards came out, I knew it
would only be a matter of time before a decent, quality feel keyboard would
be a thing of the past. I LURV my IBM keyboard! And I HATE the one that
came with my IBM Aptiva at home.
