I use XP Home SP2, only user and for recreational purposes only. I don't
even have Word, Excel, etc installed. I am getting updates for Office, Net
framework, XML which has made me more confused about learning this stupid
thing called a computer, than I ever was. Why am I getting these updates?
I had gone to just download updates and I would choose, but I started using
Windows Live Care which obviously changed the setting. And when that
happened every update I could ever not want is now installed.
My computer seems to be running slower, dialog boxes are taking forever to
open and I hate having stuff on my computer that I don't even want to
understand.
Trying to research what each update is has driven me crazy and I gave up
going to page after page after page to find out.
All of this is probably irrealavant - just change the Update settings again,
but I believe some of the updates are messing with things more than my head?!!
I will be grateful for any help and advice. I am sorta getting closer to
pitching this laptop thru the window.........

I do believe you have found yourself in the wrong place to vent about your
computer's woes. Maybe try microsoft.public.windowsxp.general or take your
computer to your local computer shop to get it a performance tuneup.
