Ping and Remote Desktop do not work on Win XP.

When I ping an existing computer in command lind window, I do not get any result. It just goes to the next command line. If I try to ping a computer which is not existing, I will get the message of unknow host name. So it seems the ping works, I just cannot see the result.

Aslo, if I use the Remote Desktop to log on a remoter computer, after I put the computer's name or its IP address and click the Connect button, the Remote Desktop will just close with nothing happen. If I try to access a computer which is not existing, I will get the message of unknow host name.

Does anyone know what the problem is?? I even try to reinstall the my compter. But it did not help.
