I have the following problem with my wireless network.
I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 AP/router connected to a Linksys cable modem. I can not always connect with my Gateway M275 laptop with Intel 2200BG wireless adaptor, but have no problem with my Gateway 450X (not sure what that uses for adaptor hardware.) The M275 has SP2, the 450X has XP SP1 About 25% of the time, I turn my laptop on, it connects and works fine. 75% of the time it gets hung up acquiring a new IP address. (IP address at this point is 0.0.0.0) After trying for a while, I get an error message saying I have limited or no connectivity. Sometimes I can select "repair" and it will connect. Usually I get the same "limited or no connectivinty" message. If I press repair enough times (3-4) it will usually connect. Once it is connected, it will normally work for as long as I care to use it, but one time in 10 my connection will drop out after a half hour or so. Signal strength is excellent, router has been flashed to latest firmware, latest Intel driver has been installed (Gateway doesn't offer any driver updates for this hardware) WPA-PSK security enabled. I have not had an opportunity to use this laptop with other wireless networks yet, so I don't know if the problem is with my AP or my laptop, but suspect it is with the laptop since the other laptop works fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Randy Randy |

Randy,
I have the same problem since loading SP2 but with a Sotec laptop, a Lucent Gold Card and a SpeedStream Wireless Router or a SpeedStream card. I tried applying MS Patch KB884020 which may have helped but did not fix the problem. I still get intermittent failures with the only solution being a reset of the router. Just another one of MS's and Windows wonderful solutions!
