Media Extender for XBOX

Has anyone tried to hook up a wireless router directly to the XBox and put a
USB getway on the home pc so they can form a wireless network without
breaking the bank account? Will the Media Center Extender for XBOX work in
this configuration?

Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "USB getway" (gatway?) ? The
network topology you are describing is a little vague.
