Default Is Sybex good enough?

>-----Original Message-----
>Do you think that Sybex MCSA/MCSE Windows XP Professional

Study Guide 70-270 (ISBN 0782142419) is a good investment?
I have all the MCSE Training Kit books, but unfortunately
some topics aren't covered in deep. Will you recommend
this book? If not, please suggest me something (NO

I find that diffiult to believe? Most complaints I've heard about MS press
books, seem to indicate "too much" information..to the point that many
readers "shutdown" and can't pick out the test important points.

What you may need or are saying is the exam review type books are not very
expansive on the process leading up to an action. Nor should they be...the
exam books are meant to help you prepare for the exam, assuming you already
have experince with the product. For example...the XP professional MSpress
book covers 1600, almost 1700 pages.

Yeah, they are like reading a tech manual.

Oh, wait...

Well, for tech manuals, I guess they're not too bad.

some one gets it! The more entertaining a manual, more likely it is to be a
waste of time.

I hear Dell Comics has a manual for the truely lame. Marvel is coming out
with the MCSE-Man series, utility bealt filled with DVD utilty programs,
protected by his Lapel pin shield, he can be killed, but is ressurected upon
each release of a Hotfix or SP and assumes new powers at each new OS
release. Dum, dee, dum, dum...it's MCSE Man! ...with his trusty sidekick,
NCSA Boy and super pet MCP.

I realize it's not a novel but...what good will it be if I am passed out on
the floor. One of my favourite books on tech was FROM MS press. The NT 3.51
resource kit had a book on performance tuning. the first chapter began with
"the best way to make a computer go faster is by pushing it from a higher
hieght". 'm not looking for a murder mystery but a little humor now and
then can go a LOOOOOOONG way...

Hummmmm?...OK, that works for me! But I'll just have the Sundae and bag of
fries.

Seriously, though...there are many methods to learn and retain information.

In this case the OP was complaing about the lack of depth in MSpress books,
as I said, I hadn't found that to be true.

As you noted, unless the subject is actually exciting to the reader, it can
be mind numbing. I am not a masocist, but I like a text book to have a
serious tone, little or no fluff. I happen to like a book, manual that can
serve as a reference as well as a training tool. I can get enough humor just
by dropping in here every now and then.

That's what make Mike Meyer's books so good.

depth are not a problem with MS press, I will agree with you there. but
then I would only use the books as a reference tool not a study guide.
Encyclopeidas are very indepth as well, but I wouldn't recommend them as
the learning guide of choice, to be read end-to-end, for most public
schools. teach there use as a reference tool but there is a reason they use
that History text book instead of the encyclopedia. Sure, it may not
contain humor, but it may grab your interest _just_ a touch more...
