Default OT: Microsoft MVP in email Sig

An acquaintance of mine is a Microsoft MVP in one of the developer tools.
His sig for all business email correspondence reads:

Joe Blow
Company zzz
Microsoft [productName] MVP

Many have commented that it is inappropriate for business. His coworkers,
who are more qualified in the product than he is resent it. One stated: "I
could also be an MVP if I elected to answer Usenet questions all day as
opposed to working".

Is it appropriate for an employee of a Fortune 500 type company to answer
questions throughout the day on company time to maintain MVP status?
Opinions? I do not think so. However, if a person is an independent
consultant, it makes sense as business leads can be generated by this.

able to hang around MS USENET and answer questions all day long.

why all day? what's wrong with the night, weekends, lunch hours, etc. I
will hit slow times and post like a maniac but I don't just go thru the
day, I post nights and weekends...As for teh professional jealousy of "I
could be an MVP", some of these "content experts" are awarded the
designation by just trying to help out. so then the other guy doesn't
help out regularly, he don't get. And it is awarded not earned. Frankly,
I think you are way off base on this one NG...
