"one of the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and
windows does not reconize it. "
this is the message i get when i plug in my microsoft usb mouse, which
worked/works just fine a week ago.I also tried another mouse but the same
message. im using a an usb adapter plugged into the other area of the mb.
None of the 6 usb ports fuction.

i reinstalled the ms drivers and the mb drivers, but still the same problem.
im running an intel pentium D 920 w/945 express chipset, mb is a MSI 945g
platinum Neo (64 bit), 1 gig crucial ram, nvidia 6600GT video, windows XP Pro
64.

Got any ideas???

Thanks in advance

If the USB controller(s) is not functioning the only thing
you can do is to replace the motherboard. It's one of those
little chips soldered onto the motherboard and is not
replaceable, at least by the average user and without some
precision equipment. I had one board last year that would
not function at the USB 2.0 high speed and I had to send the
board it for a replacement.

It's hard to tell what you have it plugged into. If not directly into the
motherboard, try that first. Try all the MOBO usb connections. Then you
could try to see if it will work plugged into the PS2 port. Most USB mice
come with adapters.
