Ben:
Look at the 70-528 and 70-536 exams, both of which you must passs to become a Microsoft Certified Technical Specialist: .Net Framework 2.0 Web Developer. With all the new certifications and specializations available now-a-days, I agree that it can be somewhat overwhelming and confusing. Perhaps Microsoft is not making it all cut-and-dry and non-confusing because sometimes real world programming itself is confusing. And if you can't understand Microsoft's confusing web pages, how can you understand confusing programming specifications? -- Larry J.
