I am using a UK keyboard, can anybody tell me which key or combination of
keys to press to bring up the Euro symbol?

You need to use a 'character set' that includes that character; such as
ISO-8859-15 ('Latin 9'), or UTF-8 ('Unicode'). And a suitable 'font' too
of course. Some programs aren't yet able to manage such new-fangled
things.
