Please help i feel such a fool...have an evaluation
licence that i got with the training manual but have problems trying to install AD. The server is standalone with no network connections but receive errors that there is no network connection, surely you can install AD with a standalone server for training purposes..no mention in Microsoft training manual that you need 2 servers attached. Many thanks Bri Bri |

A network connection is required. The good news is that you can just install
the Microsoft Loopback adapter using the add hardware wizard. This functions as a software NIC. But one caveat: If you install AD without internet
connectivity, it will configure the server as a ROOT DNS SERVER. You would be unable to resolve any names other than on your local network. Also, if it is possible, you should have your server networked with a workstation. That way you will be able to test your server setups through an actual client. Regards. further to this, if you are not connected to the internet, you may not need to resolve non-local DNS names. but if you do create it (AD) while not connect to the Internet and want to connect later, delete teh "." zone on your DNS server and bob's your uncle...
