After some serious investigations, I (along with Cingular & HTC) have come to
the conclusion that the version of Windows Media Player 10 that comes with
Win XP x64 is NOT compatible with ActiveSync 4.x. Has anyone else discovered
this? My PocketPC syncs perfectly fine with everything (favorites, contacts,
calendar, tasks, etc) EXCEPT Media. Windows Media Player 10 (in x64) won't
even acknowledge that the device is connected. I've tested the device on
32-bit versions of XP and every single one recognizes it and will sync with
it (through ActiveSync & WMP10).
I've noted that the versions of WMP10 on x64 & 32-bit XPs are different:
x64 version # = 10.00.00.3700 --- 32-bit version # 10.00.00.3990. Neither
version (on x64 or 32-bit) have updates available to them. In terms of the
x64 version, it can't even be uninstalled & reinstalled. The 'Windows
Components' section of Add/Remove Programs only allows you to remove the
SHORTCUTS to WMP10 in x64. If I try and download WMP10 from Microsoft's
website, I'm given the message (when I go to install it) that "This version
of WMP can be installed only on a computer running Windows XP (32-bit)".
There isn't a 64-bit version of WMP10 available for download from MS, either.
If anyone has any suggestions or has encountered this problem themselves,
please let me know!
