The most recent version of the BIOS should be right, but you may not need
it. The BIOS is the one thing I do not recommend updated unless you know
for sure that you need to. Try the trial first. Install to a different
partition or drive. Disconnect all unneeded devices before beginning. You
should do just fine.

My new HP xw8200 workstation unfortunately came installed with the 32-bit
version of Win XP Pro. I'd like to install the x64 edition, but HP won't
send me the OEM disk (apparently, there isn't one).

I visited the HP site and found all the x64 drivers for the xw8200. I figure
I can download the trial version of XP x64 and manually install the drivers.

I need to be very careful about install order. The helpful tech guy
confirmed my belief that I should start with BIOS, the install storage
drivers, then chipset drivers, then the rest:
---
Bios update, install the operating system (the intergrated SCSI and SATA
subsystem cannot be used to install the system drive as there are currently
no HP supported drivers for Windows XP 64 bit) Having the SATA controller
emulation set to "combined Controller" should force it to emulate the
standard ATA and allow installation on SATA drives.
The next item to install would be the Intel Chipset drivers and then the
remaining drivers.
---
That's all I have to go on. Any suggestions from this forum are most
welcome!

Cool, thanks. I'll get my drivers together and take the dive over the
weekend.
