Let's talk about something different, letting aside NVidia Firewall, F6-SATA
issues, recommend me a good antivirus, etc.
ffdshow (freeware x86 app) is my sole directshow video decoder for all
formats (xvid, divx, etc.).
It works very well with WMP10 and also adds subtitling capacity.
After all, WMP10 is an x86 app in an x64 environment.
No x64 video decoders are available for the moment, except for some beta one
(xvid) posted in planetamd64.com
Getting back to ffdshow, here's my problem.
ffdshow can be configured through the three options installed in the Start,
Programs, ffdshow group:
Audio, VFW(Video for Windows), and directshow.
The middle option doesn't work in x64 saying that it cannot find ff_vfw.dll.
That dll resides in the syswow64 folder.
It's right there but somehow it cannot "see it".
Has anyone experienced this problem or know a workaround?
Copying ff_vfw.dll to the ffdshow folder doesn't seem to solve it.
Regards.
Carlos

It seems too simple, I know, but have you checked if the folder (syswow64)
is in your path? It happens now and again that someone puts a hard coded
search path in a program, and this one may not have known about any
'syswows' of any kind when it was written.

You certainly gave me another interesting idea.
I just copied ff_vfw.dll to the system32 folder and voila, everything is
working now.
I can also run VirtualDubMpeg (x86 version) which can decoder Xvid and Divx
using ffdshow vfw.
Thank you so much.

Well, once again it proves itself - Seren & Dip didn't live in vain. Good to
hear it works.
