Default IE and Media Player

I have WinXPSP2, IE7, and Media Player 11. When I click on a link in IE, it
opens a window rather than running Media Player automatically. Plus the
window sometimes won't play the movie. I have to copy the link and paste it
into the Media Player by using File, Open URL. It works then. How do I
correct this so that Media Player opens automatically to play the movie?

Thanks.
