This problem was discussed before:

http://groups.google.com/group/24hou...278e4005c81566

I have a similar problem--Mapquest loads an empty space, with the
scale and borders, but no map.
I've tried to do everything suggested in the earlier discussion--made
sure that javascript was enabled, turned off Norton Personal Firewall
and even Antivirus, but no map. BTW, no map with any browser (IE6,
Mozilla, Opera). I haven't been able to find the HTTP_REFERER that
seemed to be important.

I'd appreciate any help to get Mapquest working again. Oh yes, it used
to work until a month ago, and I did fiddle with something then. Bad
choice.

So it's maybe a hang over from some AV/FW component still running.

Cleared at least 1 browser cache.

Do you need to use a proxy cache setting in your browsers for your ISP?

Maybe turn it off or try a different proxy.

So on the page
http://www.fingerlakesbmw.org/test/fltest.php
the thread refers to the HTTP_REFERER: is blank when you try it. That's
usually just the link you clicked on to get somewhere else.

It's blank because you aren't coming from another page.

Try
http://tools.virginmedia.com/
Click on - See my environment variables
the referer should be
http://tools.virginmedia.com/

It's true some AV / FW apps block this, Outpost does this, I have it set
to deny all , then enable for selected sites only,

So mapquest is JavaScript, Cookies, Referer, very long identifier
strings,

<li class="last"> <a onmousedown="MQ.map.getMapState(this);"
href="/maps/linktomap.adp?mapdata=dWsdtzB2EBSDOJUjB%252bLM9%25 2baIRSbOvruZyGxLeO8AzBvt6wlX2x3UOgiS5SUGKWEkbZQir% 252fjoJfS2f%252bn15Y0e7FVBI%252fxIPz0rY5DmOpiCXyK3 R8Voq7LPBKcBm5Q9fA3zZB28WFDZBqJVTJsACcn4eV2tr1hwB0 PwVQfxi1Xq92yerqXpvMxv0o%252br6VTU4oOiUGGPJG3r5vPb UWWR2y13UsJd6e3yyXLN00sNJBusAzybsUT6OncpbTAHFGw0mv VanfOazcfwDWyrh6DUW8Pb0wuWmEWvl4CloCVvQFB7O%252bxw hmp63gm261aDpCmAi%252f9fbaCfPAWoSDCJiwCkzL3YSk1wVp DueywlB5ArmKlPtD0O8fDzJpiaWlOfKTYMdxFHTVR0n7KaDet4 jNXHZTdK0oPvtgAo5VN67j9RvwTMjQBdA6fO3%252fW3lNlory cuirJk%252bMpWgez0LGEB9uPiQBGxUSDybbafJXNA3SkxNdhv loV7xlaNak8M43N0WFHjZB9tUIXzi7NhEHK%252bXdkSK3rNRW CQ9k6c7ex09%252f43xNNOs6G9OTsD71YeiPtXGMgsnikevpRN NHnJZJhnSszCGjkyV2jVDohaixEVDV%252fcVGg2DcQtfmrGqj RwJzLRhI1BiiaR5QK4vFpD5r2zuL4o7Aez1AsXSwprtYb%252b U%252bEDooCjBoqBlu7e7ftHLYCsYPW0ZKoNMXWNALOvjCmMAX %252fLEmyLwJYpgAdN%252bCblQB%252bIvTscD0t9UGCYrvYF cz7FSi%252b1c%252fuEshYCqxVHWZK5se%252fL5Z%252bdo% 252bE8sH1Ql0D7QE3FVTf5sXXbDo%252f2RoLs%252fdJCRSjR %252f9kvG4AUBHad7hcsJ%252bfW7cyNOsT8

That's 1535 characters in the link, that maybe an issue as well.

Ah the big clue what was it?

>choice.

How about a link to the mapquest page?

So taking Boston, MA. as an example
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp...20%28K%2d12%29
or shorter
http://preview.tinyurl.com/25sxg5
you get everything except the map.

What may be worth a try is download somethig like SamSpade, wfetch, load
the boston mapquest link , in your browser and do view source.

It's a lot of code to look through, but if something is missing it may
be a clue.

Using the trial version of UltraCompare may help if you save both the
wfetch and browser view source as text files.

First, thanks for the suggestions. They didn't help (probably my
fault.)

Strangely, the problem has disappeared! I didn't load any additional
programs or make changes in any browser settings. First,
I found that Google Maps worked, so I stopped worrying about
Mapquest. When I later opened Mapquest it worked just fine. I don'
understand it, but I'm happy to have access again.
