I failed to mention in my original post that I've already stopped/disabled
Wireless Zero Config via services.msc

After Unchecking the two entries in the Connection properties, reboot, and
stop WZC Service from running.

No, thiere is no simple supported way to remove the disconnected icon.
You can disable the unused adapters, then their icons will disappear.
