Similar XP problems

I am experiencing problems similar to Gabriel's. My PC is also an E-
Machine (T6126, 160 MB). I cannot startup Windows XP Home, except for
Safe Mode. Last Known Good Config and Start Windows Normally will not
work. I bought the PC in February 2006, and these startup problems
started to appear in about November. Basically, I get the eMachines
logo, then a quick flas of the BSOD, and then the 'Windows did not
start successfully..." Then, the cycle continues. The Stop error
that appears on the BSOD is as follows:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

STOP: 0x0000000A (0x000000B0,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x804EE061)

Some other notes: Like I said, the problems started in November, but
they've gone to a whole 'nother level this month. I used to be able
to get Windows started on the 2nd or 3rd try, but not anymore. I
recently added Norton Internet Security and System Mechanic 6. I
also did Norton and Windows updates, and since then I have not been
able to start Windows (except in safe mode).

Add for the past few days since I added what I mentioned above, even
after powering off, the Number lock key remains lit. This did not
happen before.

Does anyone have any ideas? Does that STOP error code mean anything
to anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Uninstall all Norton garbage IMMEDIATELY. It is notorious for killing
top-of-the line computers.
Once you uninstall from Safe-sex-mode, try restarting to see if that
works. If it does not, then you are too late, and Norton and Co. will
have caused you to reinstall Windows. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I know Norton didn't cause this problem, but it
has gotten worse since I installed Norton a few days ago.

I will try to uninstall it tonight.

Don't "Last Known Good Config " unless you know what it changes, it can
rollback license files and drivers without telling you.

See past posts in 24HSHD
http://groups.google.com/group/24hou...elpdesk/topics

You can search www.google.com , http://support.microsoft.com for those
messages.

IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and, try taking the : out.

STOP 0x0000000A

http://www.google.com/search?q=stop+..._LESS_OR_EQUAL

http://search.microsoft.com/results....+LESS+OR+EQUAL

Somewhere on the same error screen you may see a driver name below the
STOP line. If you add that to the search as, well it may narrow down the
matches.

Doesn't help, it's a bit messy to cut & paste, instead paste the long
URL and a short version from http://tinyurl.com/ with the preview option
to check the long and short URLs match.

Which turns out to be

The error was most likely caused by a Device Driver, and the prime
suspect would be whatever driver is using memory address 0x804EE061

Here is an article I wrote which may help you to diagnose the problem
further:

*******
Identifying the cause of STOP errors using PSTAT & Excel

Many times when a STOP error occurs the information provided does not
specifically identify the application, device driver, or other
component file where the error occurred. However the 4 parameters
associated with the STOP (bugcheck) code will very often include one
that is the address where the error occurred. You first need to look
up the detailed information about the specific STOP code in order to
determine if the address is included and if so which of the 4
parameters has the address.

You can identify the meaning of each of the parameters for your
specific STOP code at:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms789516.aspx

The second step in the procedure is to identify the addresses that
each active process is being loaded at. The PSTAT utility will
provide this information. On some systems the PSTAT utility may
already be present. Check this by opening a Command Prompt window
(Start - Run - CMD) and entering the following command:

PSTAT /?

If PSTAT is not on your computer you can download it free from
Microsoft. The download is called "Windows XP Service Pack 2 Support
Tools" and it is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
With PSTAT installed on your computer the next step is to open a
Command Prompt window again (Start - Run - CMD) and generate a report
with PSTAT. Because you need to copy part of the information from
this report (and only part) it is best to create the report as a text
file. In the Command Prompt window enter the following command:

PSTAT > C:\JUNK\PSTAT.TXT

You may change C:\JUNK\ to whatever drive and folder that you want to
save the report into.

Now open the saved file in Notepad. Start - Run - NOTEPAD
C:\JUNK\PSTAT.TXT

Scroll down the file, about 80% of the way to the end of the file and
you will find a head line:

ModuleName Load Addr Code Data Paged LinkDate

It is the information from this line to the end of the file that we
want to copy from this file and save as a separate file. Select the
block of text and copy it to the clipboard. Open a new notepad window
and paste the clipboard contents into it. Save this file under a
different name. I use PSTAT2.TXT and put it into the same C:\JUNK
folder.

Now launch Microsoft Excel and use File - Open to bring the PSTAT2.TXT
file into Excel. Excel will automatically parse the file into
columns. Once this is done use DATA - SORT to sort the entire
spreadsheet based on the value in Column B (Load Addr).

It is now a simple task to read down the addresses until you find the
highest value that is less than the address where the error occurred.
That module (name in column A) is the prime suspect for the cause of
your error.

*******

Good luck

'STOP' is XP's version of the BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH -- which plagued the screens of millions of 95 and 98 users world-wide.

According to my own independent recent research through Troubleshooting, what you're explaining there means that one or more of the Windows Files are corrupted -- possibly due to a viral attack, or conflict in configuration...

If you have not already, might I suggest you try using the System Recovery panel to re-install the Windows Files?

If the problem persists then it may be down to Hard-Drive failure... if this is the case; I would suck-it-in and I would seek another Hard Drive to replace it. If you do not have an Installation Disc, perhaps it could be worth investing into a brand new machine?

If this does not work, then it could be a result of corruption of your ROM, which is where the BIOS is stored -- which means you're basically buggered and need a new machine (there are still solutions, but are quite pricey).

I wish you the best!

Warmest Regards,
Dan
