For some reason about 3 or 4 weeks ago everything but the date stop showing
in the system tray. For some programs that start using the system tray is
the only way to shut them down. I have not been able to find a fix. Even the
normal indicator to expand the system tray has disappeared.

Can someone provide a workable solution?

If you look at the toolbar properties, have you accidentally set "Hide
inactive icons"?

also try running start>run>msconfig
this will give you access to everything that loads at windows startup,
see if any are there. like virus software, firewall, ICQ, messenger et al.

Checked that and nothing appears that may be causing the problem
