Hi all,
My creative 1 GB flash disk got very hot a few seconds after plugging
to front USB port of my PC. Now, Neither my own PC nor others do
recognize it. windows does not detect at all that a USB device is just
plugged.
I think it is severely damaged but I'm looking for possible recovery of
the data on it.
Any comment is appreciated !

Probably it was his first born that caused the problem. Kids stick the
stupidest things into USB ports <g>

Get another of the same brand after you rip the busted one apart.
"Maybe" the flash could be swapped but it sounds crapped. There are
recovery proggies out there for flash memory - freebies at that.

Unfortunately when silicon devices get 'hot' it usually means the internals
have fused (melted).
This would have taken any 'data' with it.

There is some possibility the memory chip wasn't the part that fused and any
data on it survived.
In this case to retrieve the data you could possibly remount (solder) the
chip on Flash disk of the 'exact' same type to find out.
However this is something your corner TV repair man is unlikely to do.

Your most productive course of action is to take it to a Data Recovery
Specialist i.e. we are heading into $$$$$ territory.

Only you can tell if the data is worth that much.

Best
Paul.
