Which version is the Best version of Linux to use, Free of Course!!?

I'm a Win 2KPro (Stableist platform Windows has) user and am wanting to
Switch to Linux.
XP Sux, and now Vista! I can't afford another PC with all those Hardware
requirements.

What you can do at distro watch.

See how the very popular site's page hit ranking goes for the various
distros. Go to a page with the top 10 distros and see those over viewed
and top 5 live CDs, top 5 beginner friendlies, top 5 multimedia, etc.

Then you can use the links for the various distros, of which there are
356 ranked by last 1, 3, 6, or 12 months and click up the various
reviews of whichever distro suits your fancy.

The site also gives you links to where to dl the distro ISOs.

For a newbie I would suggest either Kubuntu or PCLinuxOS.

Kubuntu:
http://www.kubuntu.org/

PCLinuxOS:
http://www.pclinuxos.com/

Both of those are "windows-users friendly" and both have a Live CD that you
can burn and then you can actually run the OS from the CD without installing
anything. This is very good to a) familiarise yourself with the OS before
you install, and b) ensuring that all your hardware works!

Be warned however - if you access the Internet through an internal "Win"
modem, you may find great difficulty in getting that to work. If you use a
router with broadband there shouldn't be any problems at all.

Good luck!

Before installing anything, you can try a Live-CD. For a "newbie", you
could try Ubuntu,

Kubuntu,
http://www.kubuntu.org/faq.php
or

PCLinuxOS.

ReactOS

I got tired of Mandrake. I think Mepis or Ubuntu would make a fine choice.
