This program is not responding is what I get after the program freezes up,
then I have to close the program and then I get the message. This is all my
programs like Word and Excel and any other program. This happens about every
other time I open a program. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix
this. I have an AMD 2000 with 512 RAM using XP Pro.

Increase the memory? 512 MB for XP is a bare minimum.

Do you have a anti-virus and / or firewall?
