Win XP Pro, SP2

Posted this on MS XP help NG but responses do
not posit the problem. Can some of you help.

I don't really know how to explaine it but out of the
blue my unit will start to ring as if a telephone
except the pause between rings is not as long a
normal land line phone. It starts at any time on
any application, perhaps 2/3 times a week.I
have ran the applicable AV , trojan ect. programs
without success.

I do not have net meeting or live messenger installed.
This problem arose last week and I cannot fathom what
I have done to cause it. Regardkess of my sound
volumn setting this phone ringing comes on full blast,
lasts about 15 or twenty second, then shuts off. The
sound does not resemble a typical phone ring, the
space between rings is much shorter, the end of each
ring is not crisp but trails of in a semi-roar. I have not
DL'd anything that can be traced to this problem.

Download and Run HijackThis

http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Do a System Scan and Save a Log File.

Copy the Log File and Paste it into a Reply on here.
That will tell us what is currently running in the background on your
system.

Your "unit"?

Check your sounds in Control Panel, and see what event is assigned to
that sound.

Check your task list for any unknown processes.

The "unit" ... is it the external speakers or the case itself (builtin
speaker)?
It may as well be your mainboard alarm, due to overtemperature or fan
warning ...

Give me a break.

I suppose you would rather guess at what the problem could be?
Oh, thats right, you didn't offer any help whatsoever.......Hmmmm

I didn't realize that you set the rules for this newsgroup.

Here's an idea......if you aren't going to try to
help...............DON'T REPLY!
