Is it possible to rip a cd track to .MP3 rather than .WMA using the
microsoft standard player? If not is there any free software out there that
you can recommend?

TIA

Ron

Hi,

Just start Windows Media Player, click on Tools then select the Rip
Music tab. About halfway down you will see the Format, just open the pull
down and select MP3 rather than WMA.

cheers

In order to avoid the Microsoft DRM nightmare that can result from
WMP ****ing into the data stream, use CDex or one of the other free
rippers - CDex can be had from http://sourceforge.net/projects/cdexos/
