people have thought the world was coming to an end if they were alive

No permanent ice people. The climate has WAY more to do with sun
energy output and earth orbit changes than any greenhouse effect.
Nature does not have a "delicate balance" it has a changing imbalance.
If things were delacately balanced, there would be no life, no
evolution, no changing anything.
