Don't mistake common resolutions in LCDs with what is actually possible.

Some LCD makers use a higher pixel density.

No one is going to underrate their true resolution abilities.

Well, that's why I figured that if a monitor says "1280x1024" it wouldn't
be able to do 1600x1400.

I can't imagine that a maker will claim a resolution that is lower than
their product can actually manage, and there does seem to be a distinct
lack of 19" LCDs with resolutions better than 1280x1024. I don't think
that can be a technological limit, so perhaps it has to do with the
requirements of 'normal' office workers rather than animators or CAD or
graphical design users or others with a particular need for fine detail.

Finer resolutions are certainly available on screens larger than 19";
here's a 23" 1920x1200

Think of the shipping costs.

So true. Which is why when we buy a new system at work, we grab another
monitor with it, even if we don't need it at the time. Dell adds it to the
computer shipping with only $10 additional freight.

I bet they were wondering why I bought monitors with those last three
laptops <g>

The LCD is much lighter. And a flat screen.

That's fine and dandy but you failed to answer either question.

Find out the dot size on the cRt and the cell size on the LCD - smaller
is better. (each "pixel" of image contains a number of dots).
