Not sure why you'd think that, if you look at my headers it says User
Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.7 (Windows/20050923)

From where are you getting your updates?

A very likely suggestion - it certainly isn't something caused by Windows
Update.

Especially since it is a rather incorrect description of that particular
segment of his anatomy. Now, SmallStinkyBeanBag may be much more accurate.

they're probably not ALL infected, but I've downloaded a few updates
that set off AVG for virus of some kind.

I find it hard to believe that official windows updates are infected.

I'll bet you got scammed by one of those spyware/adware programs that
PRETENDS to be windows update... They make them look somewhat similar..

Regardless, if you only use official windows update site, it is a
coincidence that your are stuck in a restart loop. I don't recall any
windows update that was called "startup pack" or anything remotely
close to that, but if you've gotten all official windows updates from
microsoft, it is unrelated to your startup loop.

You've got a virus - take it to your local shop for cleaning, or you
can buy an adapter to hook your laptop's hard drive up to another
machine, where you can remove the virus that way. Hopefully it hasn't
damaged any vital windows files.

I got my virus through automatic update, straight from MS.
