Laptop keyboard problem -- again

I posted this about 3 weeks ago:

A friend has recently acquired a second-hand Compaq M700 laptop. Everything is
fine except for a keyboard quirk. Hitting the g and h keys results in g5 and
h6 appearing! Also, apparently with the number 5 and 6 keys. He's checked the
underneath of the keys and no dirt or anything there. Any suggestions as to
what's wrong -- hardware or software?
------

Following the suggestions here, we tried an external ps2 k/b and that worked
okay. So he got a new keyboard for the M700 and I fitted it for him. Guess
what? It still has the same problem! Desperation setting in -- any more ideas
anyone?
TIA

Have you called Compaq tech support?

Try the external keyboard again.

If you got the new M700 keyboard from a shop, ask them.

Ask a Compaq specialist/shop.

Look on the taskbar for a Compaq keyboard handler. I believe there's also a Compaq tab on the
keyboard settings in the Control Panel.
