Hi,
I think I have a simple question about WINS. Why should I define a DHCP setting option to include the WINS server's address. As far as I understand WINS serves as a DNS. and I don't have to include DNS's address in DHCP address pool. I am a newbie..and will appreciate and suggestions or the links to the info. Thank you very much. Alex Alex |

Hey Alex,
the reason you set any options in DHCP are to pre-define them to the clients. you set the WINS option so the client 'knows' the IP of the WINS Server when it catches an IP for itself from DHCP. WINS is not DNS. they are alike. WINS resolves NetBIOS names, while DNS uses FQDNs.
