Hi,
I recently bought Linksys wireless-G broadband router v1.1 (model #: WRTG54G). I have desktop running Windows 2000 Professional and a notebook running Windows XP Home edition. Using the wireless router I am able to surf the net and check my email from both (desktop and laptop), but I do not know how to set up the home network. I want to share the disk drive/folder on my both the computers so that from notebook I will be able to access shared drive of the desktop and vice versa. Can you please tell me in detail as who to do it so that I can transfer the files and folders between desktop and notebook using wireless router? Please tell me all the steps involved because I am not a technical person. Thank you. Joe =?Utf-8?B?Sm9l?= |

You will need to Share the folders/drives/printers you want,
If you do not have the file sharing components in the network you will have to install them first on both computers. then share the folders/drives/printers... Press the "Windows" key + "e" key, and Right click a drive icon, if sharing and security is one of the items on the menu that is displayed, you have sharing installed... if not you will have to go to the network section in control pannel and add them...... Have fun... HubSwitch "Joe" <> wrote in message news:E1EAC58F-1624-4B7F-98F6-... > Hi, > > I recently bought Linksys wireless-G broadband router v1.1 (model #: > WRTG54G). I am having the same problem Joe is having. I have all
my shared files configured properly but the wireless laptop cannot "see" the home network.I.E. my notebook comp does not see my LAN network setup although I can still surf the net through the Linksys wireless router on my laptop. Any help would be nice. >-----Original Message----- >You will need to Share the folders/drives/printers you want, >If you do not have the file sharing components in the network you will have >to install them first on both computers. then share the >folders/drives/printers... > >Press the "Windows" key + "e" key, and Right click a drive icon, if sharing >and security is one of the items on the menu that is displayed, you have >sharing installed... if not you will have to go to the network section in >control pannel and add them...... > >Have fun... > > > >HubSwitch > > >"Joe" <> wrote in message >news:E1EAC58F-1624-4B7F-98F6- ... >> Hi, >> >> I recently bought Linksys wireless-G broadband router v1.1 (model #: >> WRTG54G). I'am using a free tool from www.foldershare.com to sync betreen multiple
computers. This tool are working over port 8000, 6000, 443 and port 80. Michael Iversen --- When a man's knoledge is deep, he speaks well of an enemy. Hi
As a first step make sure that your File Sharing is configured correctly on both computers. This link might help in case of trouble: http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html When File sharing is configured, and it is working correctly there are few options to copy, move, use, files across computers. My favorite one is Drive Mapping. Let say that you have two computers let call them X and Y. Each one of these computers has Drive C: you can map the Drive C: of computer Y into X give it a drive letter (to make it easy I would assign the letter Y). Once you are done computer X has Now its original Drive C: and drive Y, drive Y being Drive C: of computer Y. Files of Y can be copy, move, use, on computer X. Similarly you can Map in Computer Y the Drive C: of X. How to Map? Look for the term Drive mapping in Windows XP native help. Jack (MVP-Networking). Of course, you need to make sure the computers are on the same Workgroup. Go
to Control Panel, and then the Performance and Maintenance category. Click System. Go to the Computer Name tab. Once there, make sure the Workgroup names MATCH EXACTLY. They can be changed by using the Change button. Once they match, re-boot, and they will now communicate, and the shared resources will be available by going to My Network Places. Of course, it will take a few moments for Windows to get the resources on the screen. Hope it helps, tell me if it doesn't. I am a Jedi Master, and I am here to serve all!
