link checker

hi,
anyone has a clue on how to builder a web app that can
accept a url (string) from a user and then check if
that link is valid by navigating to the site and waiting
for the response. i have built all functionality just
that the response object will just redirect your away and
then i wont be able to check if the page is valid or not.
