Are Universal Character Name and Unicode one and the same?

Almost, but not quite. UCNs use ISO 10646; for the relationship between
ISO 10646 and Unicode see <http://www.unicode.org/faq/unicode_iso.html>.
IOW, they're closely related, but Unicode does more than just specify
character encoding.
