Default .NET and Java certification

Hi,

I have plans to become a "Technical Consultant" - as i understand for now -
he is the one who "consults" companies about new technologies. He must be
"know-all" in competing tecnologies. For e.g. he must be able to compare web
technologies like JSP and ASP.NET and find out, according to the
requirements of the client, which one suits better in the situation.

For this he atleast he got to know the "other side of the coin". like
advantgs and disadv Java and .NET have in implementing Web Services.

For this i am currently giving MCAD exams ( i am already Masters in Computer
Applilcation - a degree course ) and then may be Java certs. What do you
feel about this. ? Are there any tech consultants here who can advice
me...please.

To put it simply what i want is - to know about Java and .NET so that I can
tell the pros and cons to my clients. What path should i choose ?

Pravin.

Pravin,

I have been a consultant for eight years. In my experience, clients rarely
ask me to compare two completely different technologies (like choosing Java
or .NET). 99% of the time, they have already made their decision (or do not
care about the underlying technology) and are hiring me to develop a
solution for them.

My honest recommendation to you is to choose one side of the coin and become
an expert in it. Choose .NET if you'd like, and then go out and become the
best .NET developer in your home town or city. OR choose Java and become the
best J2EE developer around.

The worst thing you can do is try to become an expert in both. Again, 99% of
companies either have a preferred platform (ie: they're already an
all-Microsoft shop) or don't care about the underlying technology platform.

By trying to become an expert in both, you will instead be an expert in
neither. ("Jack of all trades, master of none.") People looking for a .NET
Expert will look at your Java skills and say you're not the right person.
And people looking for a Java Expert will look at your Microsoft skills and
say the same thing. You can't win.

Red pill or blue pill. Choose one.
