Fast-ish lens for Pentax K100D?

Sorry if this is a repost for some of you. This message didn't seem to
go out, yesterday. I don't see it in my NG reader, anywhere. Stinkin
newsfeed at work is getting worse, I think!

I have the Pentax K100D and am looking for a relatively fast zoom lens
(f2.8 or better throughout) to take indoor sports (volleyball) photos.
I'm getting ok photos with my kit lenses (after NN and PSE3, of course),
but am hoping for even better.

I'm thinking something in the 18-50mm or 18-70mm range, maybe, to
replace the smaller kit lens (18-55mm f3.5-5.6) I have. I'm not sure
what, though.

I found this one on eBay - what do you think of it? Worth the $$?
Sigma 18-50mm EX DC Digital Lens for Pentax K10D K110D f2.8 throughout.

This auction has ended, but I'm sure I can find another one, eventually.

If not this one, do you have any suggestions on a decent lens (not too
much $$ - maybe around this price range or less) for me? I do want Auto,
though - am I being too picky for my price range?

I was looking at Pentax, Sigma and Tamaron. Any other mfrs I should
consider, or definitely NOT consider?

TIA,

I saw it the first time, but didn't have any suggestions. You'll
probably get more experience and advice in the Pentax forum at dpreview.
So far I've stuck with the kit lens and have been pretty impressed
(thanks to the camera's excellent high ISO performance). I don't shoot
indoor sports though. That's a pretty tough assignment.

The Sigma 18-50 f2.8 is a good one for the K100D according to users. Pentax
are coming out with the sort of zoom lenses you want very soon, but they'll
be high quality expensive weatherproof ones suited to the K10D (also
weatherproof). I've got the Sigma 17-70 f2.8-4.5 and that works nicely at a
good price but it may not be fast enough for you.

Yep, I heard that there were going to be some new Pentax lenses coming
out soon. But, with most new good zoom lenses, they'll probably all be
$600 min! I was hoping to spend half that.

I just read that the Tamaron 28-75mm f2.8 is another good one. Will have
to check into that one, too.

Thanks!

If 50mm is all you need in terms of focal length, you might consider the
Pentax FA 50/1.4. It's not a zoom, but it's plenty fast, very sharp, and
reasonably economical... if you can find it.

Only one 'A' in Tamron. That may help if you are searching on the web for
reviews etc.
