Are there any P&S digitals that have a wired (switch contact) remote
option? An IR remote would be a second choice, but a distant second.
I appreciate this is a common feature on DSLRs, but they are too big,
heavy and costly for the application. Other desirable features
include:

At least 3x optical zoom, preferably more.
As small and light as possible.
Decent battery life
A least 5 M pixels

Ricoh Caplio GX8 - connects via the mini - USB port, 8 MP, 3x zoom from 28mm
equiv. good optics. Seems to be discontinued, but is still on the market in
Europe (don't know about New Zealand)

Panasonic FZ-50 - not small, not cheap, 10 MP, 12 x zoom, dedicated
connector
