Hi everybody,

I have Canon G5. I also have a new baby who changes almost every day.
Apparently G% doest not put date on photos. Canon suggests to put dates
manually (and I am making a lot of pictures ). Could somebody
suggest me some software which can stamp dates on the photos
automatically

Thanks,
Julia

Freeware: http://www.irfanview.com
not free but great printing util the does tons of other nice things
such as automatically placing multiple prints per page, printing exif
info in the margins, etc. http://www.ddisoftware.com/qimage

Photo Dater - freeware. It can place the date in any color of your
choice, in various locations on the picture. It will do either a
single pic, or entire directory automatically.

Isn't there date on EXIF data?
I think that my G5 take photos with EXIF data and there was date too.
But if you want that date stam to the photos too then that won't help you.

Thanks everybody.
I want that date stamp on a photo.
I am looking at IrfanView and trying to understand how to make stamp.
It looks too complicated for amatuer.
Photo Dater is exactly what I need. But... It shrinks photo about 4
times. I am not sure it will be a good quality photo to print.

File => Batch Conversion/Rename
Add files.
Choose Batch conversion - rename results files near bottom right.
If you are particular about the names change from the default renaming
scheme.
Set JPEG output choose options to set output quality
Check use advanced options.
Set advanced options.
Uncheck crop/resize
check Add overlay text.
Choose settings
Coords are where the txt box is placed
Height/width are size of box
For text use $T
Set background color and choose font type/size and color.
You may need to iterate on the text box size height/width and font
size.
Make sure the overwrite existing files and delete originals options
are UNCHECKED!

Thank you Ed. I followed your instructions and I could get a date.
However the stamp is only in the left top corner. If I am trying to put
it in the right bottom corner I can see tiny background with no date.
If I take out background - no date at all. I checked forum on the
IrfanView wesite: somebody had the same problem as I do, but there is
no solution.
Could you please help me with this one too?
Date in the top left corner looks weird .
Thank you,
Julia

Hmm, looks like you're right. The batch function must have some bug in it.

If you care to do these individually, just use the mouse to select the area
then Edit => Add text to selection. This works fine, but will be tedious.

Sorry.
