Hi all!

Just letting you know that Shuttertalk has published a review of the
Ricoh Caplio
R1V - a 5 megapixel compact digicam with a wide angle 4.8x optical zoom
lens. The R1V also boasts one of the fastest (if not the fastest)
shutter reponse times and startup times.

Hi,

I have just bought the caplio R1. It is a 4 mpix 4.8x optical zoom
through the range of 28mm-135mm (eq) It also has incredible macro -
focusing down to 1cm!!!!!

the reason I bought it was the incredibly fast startup time. from
switch on to first picture is incredibly fast. and writing to the
onboard ram is instant - no eggtimer at all.

I prefer the 4mpix camera as I can get more photo's on a given sd card
and as the ccd sensor is the same the 5mpix will just be noisier.

It has a neat memo recorder and unlimited (memory limit only) video
mode. It also looks really neat! especially black - but the paint might
scratch off - so I went for silver.

they are £186 on the internet - I payed £195 in a local store. I
would recomend trying any camera out yourself befre buying - so the
store have the right to the extra for letting you handle and snap with
several cameras.

Does anyone know which SD card I should get? I really like the speed of
the internal ram - but whenyou put the sd card in it bypasses this so
the sd ram write speed is important.

Regards

Philip

It's 28mm, the Nikon 8400 is 24mm, quite a difference. The flash picture
didn't impress, the review says: "definitely one area that Ricoh will need
to work on".

Pixmania have it at 278 Euro.
