Some of Kodak's new Z series cameras list compression as "standard" and
"fine". Does anyone have any further details? Does "fine" mean fine
detail and hence less compression?

Yes, by about 2x. That is the files will be about twice the size.

Thanks, Ron. I've been using a DX6490 for over a year now with good
results. However, when I try to crop a small portion of an image, it
can be fuzzy at times. I guess a combination of higher resolution and
less compression will help.

Yes, indeed, it will. I have the DX6440, which is about the same,
resolution and compression wise as your camera. Sometimes the
compression is a bit excessive.

Greetings Chris,

The new Z series cameras use a 'Standard' and a 'Fine' setting for
compression. Fine doe compress the file less than the standard and
depending on your need, find that the standard is pretty good in most all
situations. If you need something finer the fine setting will be even
better. It will be a bigger file and so less pictures on a card. My
suggestion is to try it out. If you have an SD card go to the store and
review the camera. Set it to Standard, then to Fine. You can then take the
images home and review them directly.

It is a great camera and I am sure you will enjoy if it your choice.

Talk to you soon,

Ron Baird

Thanks, Ron. Larger file sizes are OK - up to a point of course. The
Z7590 caught my eye on Kodak's web site. It looks like it won't be
available until April so I'll have to wait a little while to check it
out in the store. In the meantime, my 6490 is still going strong.
